Useful Mental Capacity Act tools

If you are worried that someone may lack capacity to make a decision you will need to start by completing an assessment. The assessment needs to be completed on CareFirst 6 and there is also a Mental Capacity Act assessment form.

You can also use these simple assessment guidance notes to take you through the assessment process on CareFirst 6.

The Social Care Institute for Excellence has produced an At a glance guide to the Mental Capacity Act, about assessing capacity and making decisions in a person’s best interests.

If you are dealing with a service user who has a Power of Attorney, you should use this checklist to ensure that correct procedures are followed.

We have created a specific protocol for making a decision about a care home or hospital admission for a service user who can not understand what is happening, or who resists the admission.
