Support for carers

Am I a carer?

We have developed four simple questions to help you recognise if you are a carer.

  1. Do you look after someone? Remember a carer is not paid or a formal volunteer
If you answer no to this question you are not a carer.
If you answer yes, go to the next three questions.
  2. Are you looking after yourself?
  3. Do you have support from family or friends in your caring role?
  4. Do you have all the help and support you need?

If you answer yes to all of questions 2-4 then you can phone Devon Carers on 03456 434 435 or visit the Devon Carers website to find out about the universal free services you can use, including the carers’ newsletter, the Alert Card and the local support groups.

If you answer no to any of questions 2-4 then you should phone Devon Carers on 03456 434 435 for an assessment of your needs.

The assessment will look at your needs as a carer and, if you are eligible for support, we will work with you to create a support plan.
