Targeted health services

Information about the health support available in Devon for children who need a bit more help, including children and young people with SEND

Targeted health services

  • Bowel and Bladder service – children

    Specialist children’s nurses and specialist nursery nurses who provide assessment, treatment, support and advice for children and young people with bladder and/or bowel difficulties

  • Children's community nursing

    The Community Children’s Nursing Service support children with a wide range of complex health conditions, who require expert and specific nursing and support

  • Equipment and mobility aids

    Information about equipment and home adaptations, wheelchairs and alternative and augmented communication aids (AACA)

  • Learning Disability Team (0-18)

    The Learning Disability works with children who have profound and severe levels of learning disability (including children with additional diagnosis such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome etc)

  • Learning disability service (adults)

    Support for people aged 18+ with a learning disability when they see their GP, use primary care services, or when they have to go to hospital.

  • Mental Health Support Team

    The Mental Health Support Team in Schools (MHST) is a new NHS service commissioned to work with a number of schools across Devon and Torbay

  • Neurodiversity pathway

    The neurodiversity pathway helps children and young people in Devon with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD, tics and Tourette’s syndrome

  • Occupational therapy

    Occupational therapy can help children and young people with physical, sensory, developmental, cognitive and social needs that affect their daily life

  • Sensory support (ROVIC)

    The ROVIC (Re/Habilitation Officer for Visually Impaired Children) service supports children with vision and Deafblind/Dual sensory impairment

  • Speech, language and communication support

    There’s lots of resources and support available for children and young people from birth to 18 with a range of speech and language difficulties

  • Specialist dental service

    Children and young people with SEND may need to be referred to a specialist community dental service if they are unable to attend a general dental practice
