Devon’s SEND Local Offer

What you can do if we decide not to issue a plan

A needs assessment may result in an EHC plan, but when it doesn’t, you can ask us for a ‘way forward’ meeting.

A way forward meeting can help you to understand the reasons behind the decision not to issue a plan and you can discuss the next steps needed to ensure your child still receives the necessary support. If you’d like to arrange a way forward meeting, please speak to your case officer.

We would also recommend requesting a meeting with your child’s SENDCo to discuss progress and talk about any additional support that could be provided.

The advice gathered during the assessment process can be used by your child’s school, college or setting to support your child’s needs.

If you disagree with the decision not to issue a plan, you will have a right to appeal. However, you have the option to meet with us to discuss the decision or request formal mediation.
