The Devon Audit Partnership Counter Fraud Team were central to the investigation of this case. It is the first case in the South West where a charge has been brought for a Fraudulent ‘Right to Buy’.
The Judge commented in his sentencing that “the right to buy scheme is set up to allow people in a very particular circumstance to purchase the property they rent, and you did not qualify for a variety of reasons”, “what you did was fraud”,
He praised those involved in bringing this prosecution in which the DAP Counter Fraud Services team saved Plymouth Community Homes, a Social Landlord, around £39k in discount value.
Details of the case can be found on the Plymouth Herald website.
