Our improvement plan

We believe that every child in Devon should have the best possible start in life and the opportunity to thrive. We are committed to ensuring children and families receive the right support, at the right time, and in the right place.

We work with nearly 5,000 children and young people and their families every year, including 700 in care and 440 older care leavers.

At the beginning of 2020, Ofsted carried out a three-week inspection of our Children’s Services. The overall judgement was ‘inadequate’.  You can read the full report on the Ofsted website.

We need to do some things better

It’s our collective responsibility, as a partnership, to improve the life chances of all children and young people in Devon.

Unfortunately, we weren’t getting it right for some of the most vulnerable children in Devon:

Our senior leaders have also not had good enough oversight of inadequate practice or systematically informed improvement.

We need to improve, and this plan sets out what we will do differently and how we know we are making progress.
