We want all children to attend, engage and thrive in their education setting.
All schools and settings must be fully inclusive and do their best to meet the needs of all children and young people. All children should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, and be able achieve their academic potential as a valued part of the school community.
All schools and settings must:
- prevent discrimination and promote equality
- make reasonable adjustments for disabled children and children with SEND
- support pupils with medical conditions
Support for all pupils
All children and young people are entitled to an education that enables them to:
- achieve their best
- become confident individuals living fulfilling lives
- make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further education or training
Working with schools and groups of parents and young people, we have created an Ordinarily Available Inclusive Education Framework which describes the sort of support that all Devon schools, early years, and post 16 settings should be able to provide all children and young people, including those with SEND. The framework is based the teaching standards and guidance from the Department for Education.
Support for pupils who need more help
Some children and young people have special educational needs (SEND), and will need additional support to make progress and achieve their potential.
If you think your child needs extra help with their learning or development, the first thing to do is to speak to their school or college.
