You said, we did: Earlier intervention

You said…

We would like to see improved early intervention for children below school age and more timely diagnosis and earlier support for those with developing conditions.

We did

A locality based Early Help Education offer is being piloted in North Devon since September 2025 to support schools, enabling a more proactive approach to supporting children and young people.

We are piloting trainee Educational Psychologists (EPs) in the family hubs so that parents have early access to advice and guidance from psychologists.

We carried out a pilot of the Early Years transitions offer last academic year focused on building confidence and capacity in mainstream Reception classes. A team of Early Years Consultants and Educational Psychologists will work with 100 identified children in up to 40 schools this academic year.

We are doing

We are developing an Attendance and EBSA (emotionally based school avoidance) online resource for parents, which is due to be published on the Education and families website in December 2024.

As part of the EBSA work, five schools were identified to pilot AV1 Robots with training and screening starting this term. Robots will be used in classrooms from January 2025.

Work is taking place with the regional team to validate data regarding Community Waiting List Recovery, understand high priority waiting lists and create a recovery plan for 2025/2026.

Development of a ‘waiting well’ online offer is underway to support those on the autism assessment pathway, focusing on development of the Neurodiversity population in its first phase.

Early Years mapping has started to identify strengths, gaps and duplications in the Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) offer.

Children’s emotional wellbeing procurement is currently underway. A new model of support will be delivered from June 2025, which includes youth worker input to targeted children’s populations.
