A couple reviewing their finances

If you are considering making energy improvements to your home and require financial support you can find an overview of funding and finance options on this page.

Funding options

Home Upgrade Grant

The Home Upgrade Grant is funding from government that can be used to cover the cost of energy efficiency improvements on eligible homes. These upgrades could include new double-glazed windows, loft insulation or even the installation of energy efficient, low carbon Air-Source Heat Pumps.

If your household income is less than £32,000 per year, your property has an Energy Performance Certificate rating of G, F, E, or D and is not connected to the main gas network then you may be eligible.

The funding is provided directly to local councils to assess eligible homes and speak to households to determine the best measures.  The councils then pay the installers directly once the work has been completed and signed off.  The funding is also available to landlords who have eligible properties, but they will be required to cover a third of the cost of the energy efficiency improvements.

Energy Company Obligation

If you are on benefits or on a low income then you may be eligible for fully funded energy efficiency improvements, such as new boilers or insulation, through the Energy Company Obligation.

The funding is provided directly from Energy Suppliers to an accredited installation company to carry out the improvements.

If you think you may be eligible for funding through the Energy Company Obligation, please contact your energy supplier directly.

You could qualify for loans of between £500 to £20,000, repayable over up to 15 years at a fixed rate for the term of the loan, and with no early repayment charges.

This loan can be used to pay an installer of your choice to carry out the works. We recommend engaging one of our support partners [link] or using the Builder tool [link] to determine the best things to do for you and your home.
