Guide: Types of fostering
Family Care Workers Scheme
This scheme provides care for young people between the ages of 8 and 15 who have challenging and complex behaviour issues.
Their needs can’t be met by traditional fostering or residential care and they require a specific care programme for their educational and psychological requirements.
The scheme specialises in helping these children to find a safe haven, a supportive family, and a place in society as well as to stabilise their behavioural difficulties and minimise any behaviour that might present serious risk.
Family Care Workers provide round-the-clock care – 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, which means at least one carer needs to be at home full-time.
This allows a relationship to develop that can support the young person, reduce the likelihood of more serious behavioural difficulties, and minimise the risk of the placement breaking down.
