Guide: Types of fostering
The Remand Fostering Scheme provides supportive family accommodation for young people from the age of 10, who are usually on remand awaiting Criminal Court proceedings or have recently been released from a young offender institution.
The scheme aims to break the reoffending cycle by offering young people a stable family environment. They are supported and encouraged to tackle their offending behaviour by working through issues with their youth offending team worker, carers, and family.
Over the years the scheme has consistently reduced the numbers of young people receiving custodial sentences and the rates of re-offending.
