Take a trip to the historic market town of Newton Abbot with its traditional market, busy town centre and popular racecourse..
Things to do
Explore the town centre. As well as a wide variety of shops, there is also the indoor market with a varied selection of stalls. If you would like to learn more about the history of the town and its connection with the railway, visit the Town and Great Western Railway Museum, or perhaps take a guided tour of Tuckers Maltings, one of the last traditional malt houses.
Visit Decoy Country Park, which has a large children’s play area with a water play feature, a lake with water sports activities, woodland walks, and a wildlife discovery centre. Catch bus 75 to Decoy from the town centre.
Just outside Newton Abbot is Prickly Ball Farm and Hedgehog Hospital. As well as hedgehog encounters, you can also visit ‘pets corner’, the adventure playground, and the tractor park. Catch buses X64, 176 or 177 to Ogwell Cross, then a one-mile walk.
