what happens if I have to cancel a course booking?

If you cancel your place on a course more than five working days prior to the start of the course all fees will be refunded.

If you cancel your place on a course five working days or less prior to the start date a full refund less a £30 administration fee will apply.

 

what happens if I can’t make a session?

If you are unable to make a session, please let the tutor or centre staff know by email or phone. Although we will be unable to provide a follow on session, our dedicated tutors will ensure that you are kept up to date with your course.

what happens if my course is cancelled?

If your course is cancelled you will be offered a transfer to another course (the difference in course cost must be paid or will be refunded as appropriate) .

If no course is available or you do not wish to attend an alternative course, you will receive a refund of your fees as follows:

  •  If Learn Devon cancels a course prior to the start date all fees will be refunded
  • If Learn Devon cancels a course after the start date, a pro-rata refund will apply. Any examination entry fees will be refunded to the learner.

You should expect a refund of your fees within 14 working days of the cancellation date of your course.

why has my course been cancelled?

Although Learn Devon has every intention of running all of our planned courses, there are situations where we may have reason to cancel them. This may be caused by low enrolment numbers (which makes the course financially unviable) or by tutor availability – where a tutor, for unforeseen circumstances, has to withdraw from teaching the course.

what happens if a session of my course is cancelled?

In the event that a course session is cancelled we will arrange for a further session to take place at a date organised between the tutor, staff and learners.

why has a session of my course been cancelled?

On occasion, due to unforeseen circumstances we may have to cancel a course session. This may be due to staff illness or severe weather etc. If, for any reason, a course session is cancelled, we will contact you by text message or phone to let you know.

can I get help with course fees or a concession?

If your course fee is £100 or over you can pay by instalment. You will pay a quarter of the fee upfront followed by a further three instalments, paid by standing order. Please contact us for further information.

what are Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications?

Level 1 Qualifications

If the highest qualification that you hold is listed below then you are entitled to a fee concession:

  • 5 GCSEs at grades D-G
  • less than 5 GCSEs at grades A-C
  • CSEs below grade 1
  • NVQ Level 1

Level 2 Qualifications

If you hold qualifications at the level below or above, you are not entitled to a concession, examples include:

  • 5 or more GCSEs/O levels at grades A-C
  • 5 or more CSEs (or more) at grade 1
  • 2 or more AS Levels or above
  • A Levels
  • NVQ Level 2 or higher
  • HNC, HND, First Degree or higher

what are 24+ advanced learning loans?

Level 3 and 4 courses are no longer be funded by the government for learners aged 24 and over (you can find information of what are classed are level 3 and 4 courses here). This was intorduced in August 2013.

To help with the cost of these courses you can apply for a 24+ advanced learning loan by visiting: www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans/overview

As part of your loan application you will need a ‘learner and funding information letter’ from Learn Devon. Please contact us on 0345 155 1014 to request this.

Please consider your own personal circumstances before you choose to take out a loan. You can get independent financial advice from the Money Advice Service: www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk.

When will I be expected to pay for my course?

Payment of course fees should be made at the time of booking.

are there any additional costs?

There may be additional material costs on some courses, particularly arts and crafts based courses. Information on what you will need, where to purchase the items and how much you can be expected to pay can be found on our course information sheets. If you require more information please let us know.

who is eligible to be a learner?

Due to the way Learn Devon is funded, potential learners must meet eligibility requirements.  To enrol on one of our courses you must:

  • have been ‘ordinarily’ resident in the EU/UK for the last three years
  • be aged 19 years or older on 31 August 2014.

Persons who do not meet the above criteria may be required to pay an additional fee for their course. Additional eligibility criteria may apply depending on the course you are attending.

i am 16-18, can I go on one of your courses?

Some Learn Devon courses are available to 16-18 year olds and in certain circumstances may be free of charge.

If you are 16-18 and not in full time education or training please make an appointment with of our learning support tutors via your local centre to find out whether you are eligible for a free course.

How do I enrol on one of your courses?

Enrolment can be done over the phone, by post or in person at one of our local centres. You will soon be able to enrol and pay for courses online, unfortunately though that is not currently available.

To find a course you are interested in, please use the search box on the right of this page. You can search for courses by both subject area and location. The location criteria is based on where the course will take place, sorted by District Council area.

To enrol by phone:

Enrol by phone by calling MyDevon on 0845 155 1014. You can pay for your course by Debit or Credit Card. If you can, please try to have the course code for the course you are interested in before you call.

To enrol by post:

Enrol by post by completing an enrolment form and sending it to your local centre with a cheque made payable to Devon County Council (do not send cash).

To enrol in person:

You can enrol in person by visiting your local centre with a completed enrolment form. You can pay for your course by Cash, Cheque (please make cheques payable to Devon County Council) or Debit/Credit Card.
