Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for anyone who is being supported on a day-to-day basis, but who is hoping to be more independent in their daily life.  

This will be a fun course, as after both sessions you will have something to take home, a companion that will make you smile. Taught in a supportive and friendly atmosphere with practical help to assist you

Course content

You will be making two small figures (max size 50cm) from scrap/found materials/fabric, plant pots/driftwood. The figures will be dressed in beachwear.

Support and feedback

The tutor will be there always for help, advice and support.

Additional costs and requirements

Any materials (yoghurt pots, cotton reels, literally anything will help.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?


About the tutor

Harry Roberts currently works on Art and Design courses and a range of Art/music based ALDD courses for Learn Devon.

Prior to this he worked for North Devon College (Petroc) for 12 years as a Fine Art Lecturer and Tutor. Before this he had four artist-in-residence positions in the UK and was International Research Fellow at Exeter College of Art and Frankfurt Akademie, and Junior Fellow at South Glamorgan University.

Harry has a PGCE from the University of Reading and a BA Hons (Ist class) from the Polytechnic Wolverhampton and Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lyon.

His current area of interest is in using paper pulp, dyes and oil paint to create large constructions that straddle the line between painting and sculpture. The current series of five works has taken four years and is due for exhibition next year.

He has held one-man shows at most large cities in the UK including two in London and has won 12 awards and prizes at local and national exhibitions and was awarded the gold medal in Fine Art in Newport, Wales.

His work is in various public and private collections including; Tarmac, Granada Television and three LEA collections.

When he was a student his tutor was Anish Kapoor.

‘I love showing people new things and materials and helping them develop their skills. I believe everyone has a creative ability. We all drew before we could speak but sometimes this creative ability gets lost or buried. I like people to find what they never really knew they had.’
