Christmas craft matters

Who is this course for?

If you are an adult with learning difficulties and disabilities or you are being supported on a day-to-day basis but hope to be more independent in your daily life, then this course is for you. You will be making a selection of ornaments and cards for Christmas. This will include magazine trees and salt dough ornaments.

Course content

You will learn how to make salt dough, how to shape and decorate ornaments and how to make individualised Christmas cards. By the end of the course you will have made a selection of lovely Christmas cards and ornaments.

Support and feedback

During the course you will be carefully guided to produce your art and will be supported throughout. Your tutor will work with you to check your progress and agree what you need to do to achieve the results that you want.

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2019 and your household income below £16.009.50 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details

Additional costs and requirements

All materials will be supplied, and you do not need to bring anything except an apron to protect your clothes.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You won’t need to do any homework, but you might like to try some of the art techniques you have learned in your own time.

About the tutor

Barbara Kernick is a tutor working with independent living groups for Learn Devon teaching Drama, Art, Craft, Shopping and Independence. Prior to this she worked as a literacy and numeracy tutor and a Skills for Life Coordinator. She has been teaching adults for over 20 years and is a senior practitioner and Internal Verifier.

Before teaching she ran her own business and has been involved in various voluntary roles but now her six grandchildren take up most of her spare time.
