About the tutor
Cindy Squire is a Family Learning tutor who has been involved with Family Learning and adult education in West Devon for over ten years.
Cindy is passionate about her work with parents, carers and their children/grandchildren and feels it is such a privilege to work in a school environment to provide families with the opportunity to work and learn together. Cindy has enjoyed tutoring a wide variety of courses including healthy eating, story sacks, fun with gardening, understanding primary maths and keeping reading fun. Outdoor learning has also been offered with workshops at Castle Drogo in conjunction with the National Trust, and created mini mosaics with families at the Museum of Dartmoor Life. The National Literacy Trust recognised Cindy as playing an important role in supporting families to read for enjoyment during a pilot course.
Cindy is a true advocate for adult learning! After starting her family in the early 1990’s she began her adult learning journey by taking her pre-school diploma at Exeter College. From then on she was hooked on learning and in 2005 passed her 7407 adult tutor qualification.
Learning through play has always been a big part of Cindy’s teaching style and she always tries to incorporate lots of interesting activities to help the families understand the topics. Her favourite quote is, ‘Tell me and I will hear, Show me and I will see, Involve me and I will understand’.
In her spare time Cindy enjoys music, dance, carnivals, dress making and visits to the beach. She is currently directing her fifth pantomime with the Hatherleigh Players, which has a cast of more than 30. She is a Sunday Club teacher, a vocalist in the local Gospel Choir, and she is also the vice-chair of the Hatherleigh Carnival Committee
