Supporting health and social care providers in Devon

Quality assurance

The Quality Assurance and Improvement Team at Devon County Council offers a free support service which includes:

  • helping you to identify the reason(s) for any non-compliance following a CQC Inspection and supporting you to develop an action plan to enable you to return to compliance
  • helping to identify where systems and processes are not effective and where improvements can be made
  • providing you with supportive resources, advice, guidance and information on improving quality in all aspects of your service provision
  • supporting you to develop and implement an effective quality assurance programme that will provide long term benefits in maintaining the quality of your service
  • prioritised referrals to leadership and management development training

You will find some of our supportive resources, as mentioned above, in the tools and templates section and/or the policy and guidance section of this site.

How we will work with you

  • We will discuss with you the areas you want help with.
  • We will tailor our support to meet your specific needs.
  • We may visit your service to look at how policies and procedures are put into practice.
  • We will review documentation currently in use at your service.
  • We will make recommendations and offer advice to make improvements.
  • We will send you a written report following our visit, identifying what is going well, and making suggestions you may wish to consider to improve quality.

This is a collaborative approach with the intention of supporting you and your service.

To get in touch with us email qualityimprovement-mailbox@devon.gov.uk. If you want to get a better insight into exactly who we are please see our section in the teams at DCC.

The Team includes staff with considerable experience of managing health and social care services and working successfully with service providers and managers to identify and plan improvements to the quality of their service.

We understand how regulatory compliance works in practice and what is required to achieve a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ Care Quality Commission rating.

All resources we provide are for your reference and are intended to be used as a guide to assist you with preparing the documentation that you are required to have in place as a provider of care and support services.

While we consider the content of these resources to be adequate to comply with regulatory requirements, responsibility for legal and contractual compliance ultimately remains with you and your organisation and we accept no liability for the content of your organisation’s regulatory or contractual documentation.

Consequently, you may wish to check with the Care Quality Commission and any other commissioners whether they consider that your organisation’s documentation satisfies their regulatory or contractual requirements. You are also advised to seek independent legal advice should you have any concerns or doubts about the validity or suitability of any such documentation.
