Options Consultation Paper 2011

Following on from the Issues and Options Consultation Paper of November 2007, Devon County Council has reviewed the scope of the Minerals Core Strategy and its key issues. As a result, a more concise and detailed set of options was developed.

The key issues for the Minerals Core Strategy are:

  • achieving a spatial pattern that minimises the distances that minerals are transported by road, supports the county’s economy and protects its environment
  • maintaining the supply of Devon’s mineral resources of national importance – ball clay, china clay and tungsten
  • delivering a sustainable supply of aggregate minerals to meet Devon’s construction needs, making full use of secondary and recycled materials and providing for new resources when required
  • enhancing the supply of locally-distinctive building stone
  • protecting Devon’s minerals resources to make sure that they remain available for future generations
  • delivering positive benefits from mineral working and mitigating any adverse impacts

A new Options Consultation Paper was published on 1 March 2011, with the consultation period ending on Friday 29 April 2011.

A summary leaflet and a collation of the responses received are also available as well as a review of the local consultation events.

To provide evidence for the Options Consultation Paper and to explain how options were developed to meet the Minerals Core Strategy’s objectives, we produced Objective Options Papers, and these can be viewed below:

To help people in understanding the implications of the Minerals Core Strategy for local areas, larger-scale versions of some of the maps included in the Options Consultation Paper were produced, and these are available below:

The options presented in the Options Consultation Paper were subjected to Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessment, and the outcomes of these processes will be used in selecting the options to be taken forward.
