Hate crime is a criminal act that is motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone’s personal characteristics – such as disability, race, religion, faith, gender identity or sexual orientation.
An incident is considered a hate crime if the victim, or any other person involved in or witness to the crime, perceives it to have been motivated by prejudice or hostility.
