Tom has been a care worker for a number of years and says “I love what I do”. Despite having dyslexia, Tom said he received all the support he needed to gain his level 2. He also has a manual handling instructors certificate so can teach other care workers.
In terms of working with others, Tom tells us that he always listens to recommendations from occupational therapists and other professionals and eases their suggestions into the caring day by starting with small tasks until people gradually feel more independent.
He tells us “I feel very honoured if we walk away when someone has recovered enough to look after themselves…to be able to say ‘I helped that person”.
