Permits for students at Exeter University

In conjunction with the University of Exeter travel guidelines, before you bring your car with you to university, please consider all other greener travel options.

You should only bring a car with you if it is essential to the course you are studying, if you need it to regularly travel to a work placement, or if you have a personal medical need to have use of a vehicle day to day.

Please do not bring a vehicle with you that you know will be seldom used or that you cannot park at your address, as this will be a nuisance to other residents who live and work permanently in the area and need to use their vehicles daily. Park considerately and safely at all times.

Student halls, new developments and re-developed properties are excluded from the on-street residents’ parking schemes around them.

If you choose to live in privately rented accommodation or HMO where permits are available, it will be up to you and your housemates to prioritise who should have use of a permit. We cannot increase the allocation of permits per address so please do not ask us to.

Do not buy a parking permit for shared accommodation houses prior to 1st September or more than 10 days before the date you are moving into the address. Any permits bought with a start date in July or pre 31 August will end on 31 August and be auto refunded leaving you without a valid permit when the academic year starts.

Students living in Exeter who do need to have a parking permit should opt to buy the student permit on the MiPermit Devon portal and set the start date of that permit to the date you expect to take up residence from September onwards. This will set your permit end date as the following 31 August and generate a refund for any unused months after August.

If you leave the University and no longer require your permit you can cancel it at any time and receive a pro-rata refund for any unused full calendar months left on your permit.

It is an offence to buy a permit for an address where you do not actually live, even with that homeowner’s permission. Any Devon County Council permit bought for an address in which you don’t live will be cancelled and will not be refunded.
