Skips and scaffolding


Scaffolding
The safety of all pedestrians and road users must be the first priority when carrying out any building work or maintenance, or removing any part of a property which is adjacent to the road, pavement or a rear lane.

  • Scaffolding and hoardings may only be erected on the public highway by suitably qualified contractors.
  • Your application should exactly how long your scaffolding will be needed for.
  • Licences can be valid for a maximum of 12 weeks; for longer periods you will need to make additional applications.
  • We need a minimum of 10 working days notice to process the application.
  • A licence costs £45. If you make the request with fewer than ten days notice we may still grant the licence but the cost will be £100.
  • Your scaffolding contractor will need to provide evidence of Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 8 Signing, Lighting and Guarding cards or certificates and evidence of a minimum of £5 million public liability insurance.

 

Skips
Where possible skips must be kept on private property.

  • Your application should state exactly how long your skip will be needed for. A licence can be valid for a maximum of 28 days.
  • Only one skip will be allowed on the highway at any one time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • We need a minimum of 10 working days notice to process the application.
  • A licence costs £45. If you make the request with fewer than ten days notice we may still grant the licence but the cost will be £100.
  • Your skip provider will need to provide evidence of Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 8 Signing, Lighting and Guarding cards or certificates and evidence of a minimum of £5 million public liability insurance.
