Ian is a volunteer driver with Lapford Voluntary Car Aid (LVCA) providing transport to various local health centres, dentist surgeries and community hospitals within the area.

Ian is one of 20 voluntary drivers who provide a much valued service to those within the village who do not have any other means of attending their medical appointments. Many of the people are older people and people with disabilities who find public transport extremely difficult, either because they cannot walk to the bus stop or easily climb on or off the bus.

“I wanted to put something into the community.

“You meet people and feel like you are actually contributing to their wellbeing.”

Transport is provided by volunteers using their own cars. It may not always be possible to arrange a lift as all the drivers are volunteers and cannot be expected to turn out on every occasion, although they will always do their best.
