What’s in tobacco?

Nicotine

In the tobacco leaf. It is addictive and a slight stimulant.

Tar

In the tobacco leaf. It contains over 4,000 chemicals and around 60 are carcinogenic. It builds up as a sticky substance in the lungs.

Carbon monoxide

Produced when the tobacco is burned. A poisonous gas also found in car exhaust fumes.
