Supporting people with learning disabilities through technology

Using a simple tablet, the group were supported by Joe to create their own video about “What do I need to remember to take with me to go out for the day?” which is triggered by a QR code that is scanned in the building in an accessible place.

Joe supports a group of people with learning disabilities at Newholme in Honiton.

Using a simple tablet, the group were supported by Joe to create their own video about “What do I need to remember to take with me to go out for the day?” which is triggered by a QR code that is scanned in the building in an accessible place.

Using their IT skills and initiative, they created a person-centred video about how to go out and about in the community.

There is now greater independence and less reliance on staff help… and there was lots of fun and laughter in the process!

Richard, Newholme Manager, also mentions how people can get advice and information from the Millbrook Healthcare and the Independent Living Centre.
