Headteacher standards
The Headteachers’ standards 2020 are intended as guidance to be interpreted in the context of each individual headteacher and school. They build on the teachers’ standards, introduced in 2012. Teachers’ Standards
The Teachers’ Standards define the minimum level of practice expected of trainees and teachers, from the point of being awarded qualified teacher status (QTS).
1. A teacher must set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
2. Teachers must promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
3. Teachers must demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
4. Teachers must plan and teach well structured lessons
5. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
6. Teachers must make accurate and productive use of assessment
7. A teacher manages behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
8. A teacher must fulfil wider professional responsibilities
