(Copy and paste the image above to make handy cards to print out and follow)

You will need

  • A resonance board
  • Hands and feet to tap
  • Communication device

What to do

  • Have the learner sit or lie on the board. You can sit behind them on the board or next to the board.
  • Tap your fingers on the board – use a set rhythm, for example a rat-a-tat-tat.
  • Encourage them to repeat what you have done / watch for any reaction. You could use the phrases ‘My turn’ and ‘Your turn’ to lead this.
  • Repeat to the left / right / in front / behind where they are sitting or lying.
  • Communicate – ask if they would like more or something different before moving on to the next part.
  • Tap your feet on the board. Can they repeat / react? Alternate left and right foot.
  • Tap out a rhythm with your feet or hands and see if they react or copy.
  • Try different taps: fingers, palms, etc.

Safety tip

Always supervise the activity to prevent accidents.
