This resource pack is designed to provide newly arrived asylum seeking pupils with their first steps:
- towards enabling them to become part of their school community
- towards helping them to begin to access the curriculum
- towards giving them confidence to participate in the wider community
Materials are designed to be easily adapted to individual needs, as pupils’ experiences, background, literacy skills, age and maturity will vary considerably. Explanation and sensitivity will be needed as pupils adapt to a different culture. This resource should be delivered by a qualified teacher.
Note: The resources provided are designed for pupils who are new to English and will support them with the initial period (6 weeks – 2 hours per day) following their admission to school.
