We know you have all had a busy term managing staffing issues and children’s absences as we accept living with COVID. In our contact with you we have recognised your resilience and determination as you continue to provide your children with the best possible start in life. Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you do during challenging times.
EYFS updates
It was good to see so many of you at the Provider Network Meetings but just in case you were unable to attend, listed below are links to the key messages that we shared:
- Amanda Spielman at the Nursery World business summit 2022 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) – Amanda gave an insightful speech covering all aspects of the EYFS
- Vodcast on Ofsted inspections and the new EYFS | From pregnancy to children aged 5 (foundationyears.org.uk) – Gill Holden, Principal Officer at the National Children’s Bureau (NCB), speaks to Phil Minns HMI and Wendy Ratcliff HMI about Ofsted’s approach to inspection and what settings can expect. Gill then speaks to Katrina Rose from Little Acorns Nursery and Natalie Willcock from Corby Glen Community Primary School about their recent experiences of Ofsted inspection, from the initial notification of inspection, the inspectors’ focus on the day and their top tips for other settings.
- Babcock LDP – Latest News – Log onto our Early Years website to find our latest support materials including: our EYC SENDCo role update, a model EYFS policy, the newly developed Communication and Language Monitoring Tool and resources identifying the learning in relation to celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
SEND Review
“Right support, right place, right time” – Government consultation on the SEND and alternative provision system in England. The closing date will be July 1st.
Early Years Conference Autumn 2022
Early Years Foundation Stage Conference: Empowering All Our Children to Live Healthy, Happy and Active Lives. Save the date for October 6th 2022. It’s always great to have something to look forward to and we are currently finalising our speakers for this exciting face to face event at Sandy Park. More details will follow shortly.
EYFS Training Update Summer Term
We have a range of familiar and new courses running during the summer including: New to SENDCo, Supporting Two Year Olds, Crafting the Curriculum for PVI settings only, Understanding the World (this training identifies the learning that can be offered during the autumn term), Art in the EYFS – Beyond Paint and Playdough and Leading the Learning in the EYFS for PVI settings only.
SENDCo Forums are in May.
Early Years: Successful Transition into Reception for Children with SEND
More children than ever will be starting school in September with additional needs. In response to overwhelming demands for support, we are holding these briefings to enable our team to reach a wider audience. Information given at this briefing will enable you to plan an effective transition. We will cover frequently asked questions including:
- What the receiving school needs to know
- What paperwork processes should be in place
- Making the most of other agencies (if they are already involved)
This product is only available to Devon Academies and Devon LA funded Schools, Early Years Settings/Childminders and there will be no charge.
