Supporting adults

Providing effective support for students is underpinned by effective support for the adults. School staff benefit from regular opportunities for continuing professional development and to have a balanced and manageable workload.

Working with children who display challenging behaviours can be incredibly rewarding; however at times it can have an emotional impact on staff and leave them vulnerable.

Schools benefit from having clear systems in place regarding how staff are supported in relation to stress management. Staff who work regularly with those demonstrating challenging emotional and behavioural difficulties are often in particular need of supervision and support.

Providing effective supervision to staff can be key to supporting their decision-making, ensuring their resilience and wellbeing and so improving the chance of positive outcomes for children and young people.
