The Ordinarily Available Targeted Support framework (under development) sets out:
- The expected additional (targeted) provision which is ordinarily available in mainstream schools for children and young people who may have additional needs, including special educational needs.
- This includes making enhanced adaptions and delivering targeted, time specific interventions. Some pupils will be on the SEND register and receive SEN provision at SEN support.
- Special educational provision is described as provision that is ‘additional to and different from ’the support normally available to children and young people of the same age (SEND Code of Practice, 6.15) and is designed to support children and young people with SEND to access the national curriculum.
- Additional support and advice may be needed from external agencies. This targeted support will also be provided within the school’s available resources.
- This framework is structured around the four areas of need in the SEND Code of Practice:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social Emotional and Mental Health
- Physical and Sensory
