Officer Decisions (archive)

Director of Children and Young People's Futures - Stuart Collins

Summary of Matter or Issue Requiring Decision:

The delivery of Robins Short Break service for children with disabilities.

Decision Taken:

Decision for Devon County Council to take over the delivery of Robins Short Break service for children with disabilities, from the current provider, for five months to allow time for a longer-term solution to be developed.

Summary of Reason(s) for Decision Taken:

The decision has been taken in order to maintain services for this group of children following a notice of intended closure provided by the current provider. Alternative providers were explored, but none were able to safely take over the service within the timescales. This was considered the next best option to prevent the closure of a service that meets the assessed needs of the children.

Summary of Alternatives or Options considered and rejected:

The option of closing the service and moving the children to alternative provisions were explored. This was rejected due to the increased costs associated with alternative provisions and due to the negative impact of the children and their families.

Details of any conflict of interest and dispensation granted to the Officer taking the decision or by any Member of the Council in delegating responsibility for any specific express delegation:

None identified.
