Child and family support

Areas for development

We don’t like to sit still in youth participation as we still have a long way to go in working effectively across the board with young people at the centre. We know that there are still many areas for improvement in how we listen and respond, and in who we are listening to and working with.

We know that not all young people in Devon are heard equally and we are committing to increasing representation in the following areas:

  • Young carers.
  • Those who access children’s services but who are not in the care system.
  • Seldom Heard young people within SEND.
  • All ethnicities and global cultures living in Devon.

We would like to establish a clearer governance for our schools and communities work and better links with school councils.

Finally, we are aware that young people are frequently being asked the same questions by different organisations across Devon. At the least, we should have a central repository of survey results and key youth voice projects that everyone can access. We will work towards this over the next year.
