School Admission Policy

We are responsible for coordinating applications for admission to all state-funded schools in its area. Find out more information about the process and how it works.

This page provides links to admissions policies and arrangements and coordination schemes.

Devon’s admission arrangements comprise its co-ordinated admissions schemes, In-Year Fair Access Protocol and the admissions policies of each community and voluntary controlled school.

In addition are the admissions policies of individual foundation, voluntary aided schools, academies and free schools. You will find links to them all from this page.

Normal round and in-year coordinated admissions scheme

These are Devon County Council’s schemes to coordinate applications at the main admission intake points into any state-funded mainstream school and applications at other times into Devon County Council area state-funded mainstream schools. There is one normal round and one in-year scheme for each academic year.

Please follow the link below to view the normal round admissions schemes for 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26.

During consultation periods, the folder will contain the schemes proposed by Devon County Council.

  • For the in-year and the normal round admissions schemes in 2025-26, a consultation will take place between 1 November 2023 and 5 January 2024.

Fair Access Protocol

All Local Authorities are required to operate a Fair Access protocol, a policy to ensure that children who are at risk of not accessing suitable education are allocated a place at a local school. This applies to in-year admissions, for children who meet certain published criteria.
