Child and family support

Accessing the service

Locality Based and Community Focused

Our new staffing model will be locality-based and community-focused across the current Mid/East, Exeter, South and North locality areas. This will include Teams of a Team Manager, Partnership Leads, Family Hub Navigators and Support Workers, employed by Devon County Council, who will work within local communities and with our partners to provide direct support to families. The family hub teams will be flexible and responsive with the ability to adapt to the needs of different localities and their communities. The team will offer a single session approach, where families can receive immediate support and advice in a single session. This approach aims to empower families to find their own solutions and access community resources. It also helps to identify any safeguarding issues that may require further intervention.

In Partnership with Families and Communities

Family Hubs is built on the principle of working in partnership with families and communities. We will actively engage with families to understand their needs and co-produce services that meet those needs. We will work together to support the identification of gaps in the current support system and bring together the partnership, with families to address them. This includes ensuring that services are accessible to all families, particularly those with complex needs. The new model aims to fill these gaps by providing meaningful support and working closely with community partners to develop local resources. By building strong partnerships with local organisations, including schools, libraries, youth centres, GP surgeries, and voluntary, charity, and community organisations, these partnerships will create a network of support that families can access within their own communities.

We will empower families and communities to take an active role in shaping the support they wish to see and receive and will support them to be involved in their local communities and contribute to the development of community resources. This includes volunteering, participating in community events, and working with local organisations to create a supportive network for all families.

Expanding Resources and Improving Accessibility

We are committed to expanding resources, improving accessibility, and increasing capacity to meet the diverse needs of families. This includes providing information about available support and family support, community and free groups, alignment of services, community access and groups, school support, library groups, and Family Hub support. We will also focus on resources for older young people, groups, inclusive activities, and continued parental support.
