Improving our first assessment work

Posted on: 1 Aug 2024

We’ve recently provided updates about a new system being used by our SEND Statutory Team to bring information about Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and related communication into one place. It was developed and introduced when we moved phone calls to the Customer Service Centre. In July, the team started using the new system to communicate with people via email. We’d now like to tell people about the next change that we are introducing.

Changes for the team

During August our SEND Statutory Team will start using the new system to manage the progress of EHCP requests. It won’t affect use of the EHC Hub by parents and carers but will replace things like spreadsheets that the team currently use for their work in the office. The new system is expected to make it quicker and easier for our SEND Statutory Team to progress and monitor individual cases. The new system will also provide better reporting in relation to EHCP timeliness.

What this means for parents and carers

Most of the changes will be for our SEND Statutory Team but parents and carers should start to receive more regular updates about Assessments once the new system is in use. We’ll also be using a new set of email templates that have been designed with the input of volunteer parents and carers. Above all, using the new system will help us progress  EHCP requests more efficiently. We’re planning to introduce similar improvements in the autumn focused on Reviews.

Understanding the impact

We’ll be measuring whether the new system has reduced the time needed to progress an EHCP request. Other research will understand whether there has been any impact on the experience of parents and carers. Our aim is to share an update with you in October.
