North Somerset’s Food Enterprise Zone at Junction 21 Enterprise Area ( J21EA) offers ideal conditions to develop a significant cluster of food related businesses. This ten acre site on the edge of Weston-super-Mare will create a hothouse not just for food and drink manufacturers, but also for related businesses including R&D, packaging and logistics, all in one dynamic development area. The aim is to help support the food supply chain across the south west linking farmers and producers to bring increased sustainability, attract new business to the area, create jobs and increase economic activity.
£9.3M has been secured from the West of England Local Growth Fund to build The Food WorksSW. The food and drink innovation centre which will kick off Phase One of the Food Enterprise Zone will provide the region with a centre of excellence for food and drink SMEs offering food-grade business units, product development facilities and specialist business support. Together the facilities and support will provide a central hub that will bring together expertise ranging from bio-technology to food engineering, design, striving to excel in food research, production, manufacturing and resource efficiency.
