Community pubs and shops

A growing number of rural communities are taking on the running of local businesses such as shops and pubs where their survival is otherwise threatened.

The Plunkett Foundation website has helpful advice and resources relating to the setting up of community-owned pubs and shops in rural areas.

Post Offices

The Council welcomes the recent report Setting up a community-run post office (April 2019) which has been developed in collaboration by Citizens Advice, the Plunkett Foundation and Post Office Limited. This provides practical advice around applying to run a local franchise or to link with existing local retailing business; the relevant application process and how to access wider community support and advice.
