A plan for the future of the area
The local authorities of East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon and Teignbridge and Devon County Council are working together, engaging with stakeholders and communities, to prepare a Greater Exeter Strategic Plan. This formal statutory document will provide the overall spatial strategy and level of housing and employment land to be provided up to 2040.
By working together we are seeking to deliver the best possible outcomes for the provision of new homes, jobs and infrastructure for existing and future generations, while also protecting and enhancing the environment.
Consultation stages
We will prepare the plan using the following steps:

STAGE One
Issues (Regulation 18) | Complete
Comments were invited on the scope and content of the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan and the key issues facing the area. Feedback will shape the first draft of the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan which will be consulted in 2019.

STAGE Two
Vision, housing and infrastructure | Active
Comments are invited on the vision, housing and infrastructure for the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan

STAGE Three
Draft Greater Exeter Strategic Plan | Pending
You will be able to comment on a Draft Greater Exeter Strategic Plan. This will include draft policies, potential development locations and supporting information, based on Stage One findings and evidence gathering.

STAGE Four
Publication version of the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan | Pending
You will be able to comment on the ‘soundness’ of the emerging Greater Exeter Strategic Plan. The plan contents will reflect the findings from Stage Two and further evidence gathering.

STAGE Five
Submission and Planning Inspector’s hearings | Pending
The Publication Version of the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan and representations received from Stage Three will be submitted to the Secretary of State. An Independent Planning Inspector will be appointed and examines the plan, evidence and comments received. He/she will hold hearings to discuss the ‘soundness’ of the plan.

STAGE Six
Adoption of Greater Exeter Strategic Plan | Pending
The plan is adopted and is used to inform local planning policy and decisions on planning applications.
