About

Find out who we are, what we can offer and what we represent

We are a partnership of adoption agencies across the region. The adoption agencies in Adopt South West include Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Somerset County Council and Torbay Council.

Our aim is to provide loving, secure, permanent homes for children and young people who are not able to live with their birth families. As part of the local authorities we operate as a not-for-profit service, keeping Devon’s, Plymouth’s, Somerset’s and Torbay’s children at the centre of everything we do. We work closely together to make the process of applying to become an adopter easier and simpler, so that we can find loving and secure families for the children across the south west who are waiting to be adopted.

We have a dedicated team of very experienced social workers and community care workers based in Barnstaple, Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton, Torquay and Totnes.

The team is broadly split into three areas – recruitment and assessing of adopters, family-finding for children and adoption support. Our operations manager covers the whole service, and practice managers are available in each area office.

We also have a support network of professional adoption specialists, such as educational psychologists, child therapists, psychologists who specialise in adoption issues and occupational therapists. We offer support for
