What is a family practitioner?

Family practitioners work directly with children, young people and families, carrying out frequent home and community visits to families who have come to the attention of social work teams.
There are no specific qualifications required to become a family practitioner and many enter the job through other roles in children’s services. However, you do have to be tenacious and resilient .

Each year, we support a small number of current employees to undertake the social work degree via the Open University and are actively engaging with national providers to identify opportunities to offer social work apprenticeships as they become available.
