Occupational therapy – Promoting independence in everyday activities.
Occupational Therapist works with patient.

Celebrating

Occupational Therapy Week

6 – 12 November 2023

As an occupational therapist working in adult care and health in Devon, you’ll have an opportunity to apply occupational therapy (OT) philosophy and deliver interventions.

You’ll focus on promoting independence by supporting individuals in the activities that are important to them.

You’ll use your OT core skills, including activity analysis, understanding the impact of disability and the environment on independence, and knowledge of adaptive solutions to reduce dependence.

You’ll work across all areas of social care and health, delivering a range of interventions including information, advice, safeguarding and full case management, environmental adaptation, equipment provision and the use of a reabling approach.

Community occupational therapists provide a person-centred service through specialist clinical assessment within the context of social care and health policy and legislation.

Work includes screening and assessment roles; face to face and on the phone, using clinical occupational therapy skills and specialised therapy work.

You’ll provide support, advice and training to staff including non-professionally registered workers and social work students.

For more information about occupational therapy, visit the Royal College of Occupational Therapists website:

Devon has a preceptorship programme to support newly qualified occupational therapists with opportunities at Band 5, Band 6 and team manager posts within short-term and longer-term intervention teams across the county.

Devon County Council are excited to be able to offer support for Occupational Therapists who are looking to return to practice in Adult Social Care via a voluntary route. Find out more about via our Return to Practice page.
