The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme
Devon’s ASYE programme is based on a national framework for practice development to help newly qualified social workers (NQSW) to develop the skills, knowledge, and capability to climb the career ladder.
“Our vision is for a social work profession that has fully confident and highly capable social workers who have been properly trained in the right way with the right knowledge and skills. They must have the opportunity to work in supportive environments that facilitate critical thinking and enable them to make the best decisions for children and families.” (Putting children first – July 2016 Department for Education)
Here at Devon County Council (DCC), we provide a bespoke ASYE programme dedicated to your individual learning and development needs. We will support you throughout your transition from NQSW to experienced social worker, which we recognise can be daunting and feel like a giant leap. We even tailor opportunities depending on your starting point, accounting for previous experience and acknowledging your progress and development throughout the year.
During the year-long supported programme, we will regularly review your progress and develop precise plans and objectives to enhance your development.
As different teams rely on differing core skills, what you learn during the programme will reflect the team you choose to work for during your ASYE year. However, the assessment structure of the programme will remain relatively similar.
Please visit the Assessment Framework for more information on the structure of the programme.
